How To Astral Project

When you dream, you’re not in control of where your soul goes but with astral projection, you can be. During astral projection, your body will be asleep but your mind is awake, allowing you to control where you go.

When you achieve this, you move to another dimension known as the astral plane (or some prefer to call it the spirit world). It can allow you to connect to spirits, which is why psychics and mediums like to explore this method or those without the gift may simply wish to become closer to certain spirits. It’s also said to expand our consciousness and awareness.

How to astral project

There are many different techniques to achieve astral projection. Though we will only be discussing a few here, it’s best to try a variety as some techniques may not work for you. With any method, the first and most important point is that you need to be relaxed. Try meditating first in order to calm both the body and mind.

The Rope Technique

A common technique of astral project is the rope technique, developed by Robert Bruce. This technique involves imagining a rope hanging above you. As you start to sleep, let your body go into a relaxed state but keep your mind conscious. When you are relaxed reach out with your imaginary hands and pull yourself up by the rope, hand over hand. You may start to feel dizzy and hear vibrations but keep concentrating on climbing the rope. You will then find yourself coming free of your physical body.

Watch yourself go to sleep

Relax as you start to try to sleep. Tell yourself that you are going to watch yourself sleep and be very clear about this. Your body will sleep while your mind stays conscious and awake. As you relax further, start to recognise the different sensations in your body. You may feel your body become heavy and numb, almost in a sleep paralysis state. You may start to feel a sense of floating or vibrations running through your body. Keep focusing on these sensations even if it becomes slightly uncomfortable such as loud noises in your ear. When these sensations happen you should now start to visualise rising from your body.

The Monroe Technique

Dr Robert Monroe is a huge name in astral projection. This technique involves really relaxing your body. Try to go to sleep but don’t let yourself get to that point. Instead, enter a hypnagogic state, which is being aware of being between asleep and awake. As you enter a deeper state of relaxation, try to induce vibrations through your body and make them more intense. As they intensify, your astral body is ready to leave the physical body. Simply roll over and you should be free.

The stretch out technique

Lie down and relax your body. Close your eyes and imagine your feet stretching about an inch longer your body. Picture this and then do the same with your head – imagine it stretching and then going back to normal. Alternate between your head and feet and gradually keep increasing the distance until about 2 feet long. Then imagine stretching out both at once, you will start to feel dizzy and with practice, you will then feel a floating sensation.

What’s important to remember about astral projection is that it’s all about practice. Don’t be disheartened if you don’t achieve it on your first night. And try not to get frustrated – remember this practice is about being relaxed.
